Catholics for Romney Leadership Team Formed: Six Former Vatican Ambassadors Lead the Effort

WASHINGTON, DC (Catholic Online) - Below we offer the letter endorsing the candidacy of Mitt Romney for the Presidency of the United States which was drafted by six former United States Ambassadors to the Vatican and released by the campaign. Each of these former Ambassadors has led a life of extraordinary public service and possesses unquestionable loyalty to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church. The announcement is just the beginning of a massive outreach by the Romney campaign to Catholic voters.

Fellow Catholics,

We are all called to advance the moral teachings of Christianity in the life of our country. Where the stakes are highest - in the defense of life, liberty, and human dignity - we have a duty to act that is greater and more urgent than allegiance to any political party.

In the election of 2012, this conviction has united all of us - each a former ambassador of the United States to the Holy See - in support of Governor Mitt Romney's candidacy for president. Whatever issues might dominate the presidential campaign from now until November, our concerns lie with fundamental rights, beginning with religious liberty.

While the current administration has brought our first freedom under direct assault by imposing government mandates that completely disregard religious conscience, Governor Romney believes that freedom to live one's faith is essential to liberty and human fulfillment. And he has pledged himself to removing those federal mandates immediately.

While the current administration has now put its weight on the side of those who propose to redefine the meaning of marriage itself, Governor Romney has stood firm in defending this sacred institution. In the White House, just as he did in the Massachusetts State House, he will defend the institution of marriage before the Congress, the courts, and the country.

Where the current administration has shown its sympathy for the pro-abortion lobby, Mitt Romney will be a faithful defender of life in all its seasons. And he understands the special duty of people of faith to serve in this cause. As Governor Romney recently said, "From the beginning, this nation trusted in God, not man. Religious liberty is the first freedom in our Constitution. And whether the cause is justice for the persecuted, compassion for the needy and the sick, or mercy for the child waiting to be born, there is no greater force for good in the nation than Christian conscience in action."

These are the words of a man we believe can be a great force for good in this nation. We are Democrats, Independents, and Republicans, but on this question we are united in faith and in action. We urge our fellow Catholics, and indeed all people of good will, to join with us in this full-hearted effort to elect Governor Mitt Romney as the next President of the United States.

Please join our team by visiting here.

Jo Ann: We agree again! I do not think I doubted you, rather, I wanted clarification. And yes, you gave me Clarification. Thank you my friend. Blessings...

Judy, Judy, Judy: Did you doubt me? LOL Technically, it IS true. SS and Medicare are entitlements. But the word entitlement indicates that someone has contributed to something. Like a savings account. i.e That's my money and I'm entitled to it. But to call handouts to people who have not contributed anything to the betterment of this nation entitlements, is misleading. We should call it what it is. A 'HAND-OUT." or charity. Maybe we should change the narrative like the libs do. They are always making up names to hide what it really is. i.e. Pro-choice, which is really pro-abortion., That's why I never say pro-choice. I call it like it is. As I said before, political correctness is killing this nation. It is because of that, that. the culture in this country has changed. If you "soften" your words, people won;t recognize the sin. Baby - "fetus" homosexuallity - "alternate lifestyle" in charge of women's reproductive healthcare - "abortion." mistake - "sin" Let's get back to calling things for what they are. Maybe then we can get back this country. God bless.

Jo Ann: Thanks. I thought: I better clear this in my mind on Jo Ann and entitlements. I haven't disagreed with her yet. Well, happy to say we're still on the same page! Keep up your Good posts! Evening Blessings...

Tom: The radicals of which we speak were training in Iraq. Not to mention the atrocities Saddam was inflicting on his own people. Don't get me wrong, I was not for going into Iraq. Our Holy Father Blessed JPII pleaded with Bush not to do it. I stand with the Holy Father. But Bush did go into Iraq and crying over spilled milk doesn't help. You will not sway me on this. The muslims have been at war with the US and the whole world for that matter since Abraham decided to bed Hagar (at Abraham's wife's request) which resulted in Ishmael's birth. And when Abraham gave the inheritance to Isaac, all hell broke loose. Even Thomas Jefferson had trouble with them. War was/is inevitable. There was and is no way we can avoid it. The time has come. God has lost His patience and we are in for a very bumpy, ugly ride. Pray that we will have the strength to endure our punishment. God bless.

Judy: I agree. I believe we are "entitled" to our SS & Medicare since we are the persons who paid for it. To me entitlement means on government payroll without contributing. If you remember, SS was in a trust at first. When FDR started it, people weren't living as long as they do now. That's why the age 65 was determined. It was totally voluntary and it wasn't taxable. But leave it to the Dems. to get their hands on it some way. Lyndon Johnson took SS out of the trust to add to the budget, in an effort to hide the national deficit. Ever since then Washington has been stealing the money for God knows what and of course, now we are in the mess that we are in. So now, the Dems. want to tax, tax, tax to get money from us to cover up their errors. God bless.

A moment of clarity here. The Muslim radicals that you referred to did indeed have a country of origin but it was NOT Iraq, the country we attacked, rather it was Saudi Arabia.

Jo Ann: When it comes to SS and Medicare, they are an entitlement to me, if one has paid into it. If one paid into SS for over 40 years their hard earned money, with the thought that that money would be there for them, (kinda like a savings acct.) at the end of retirement, by way of a monthly check, then I think that person is entitled to their money. It was not a tax. It was money set aside for said person, "as long as they paid into it". Carl Rove talks about that in one of his books at length. And the kicker is, that Obama "borrowed" so much from SS, that now it can't make it the way it is. Rove said SS would have been fine, if Obama hadn't touched it. My kids will fall under the 55 yr. and younger. All 3 have started something a long while back, thinking this "talk" would come to fruition. And its has. It's not easy for our kids, grandkids, etc,. Our time shall not come again. If you can have me see that I am wrong here, please do. A self-employed person has the right to pay into SS or not. If he/she does, they receive benefits, (which are frugal and we have to pay for supplements besides, so I really don't see how we come out ahead). I think we should have been the self-employed person, and set up an account of our own, instead of letting Obama get his hands on our SS monies. Which by "our" of course I mean everyone. Sunday Blessings...

Vance, I totally agree. I just put something on Deacon Keith's, Romney/Ryan article, to about the same affect. I think we both interpret them the same way, but..just vocalize individually, which is Good. There is Something, a Block, a Closed-Mindedness, if you will, to where conversation becomes at an impasse, a dead-end. And you are left hanging on a fragment in outer space! They have totally done a complete 180 degree turn about, and yet, you are in the same room with them; the same (space), and yet you are not. It is indeed an uncomfortable feeling. But to get rid of that feeling...and move on, and Not to take anything personally is the Goal. "Feelings are neither right nor wrong, they just are". I think when one applies that saying, Life becomes easier. Of Course, it is ACTING upon those feelings, as you know, that can be the problem or not. Keep posting! Sunday Blessings...

Tom: I believe it was the muslim radicals that gave us this despicable war. I didn't see OUR airplanes flying into any of THEIR buildings. The sooner you accept the fact that we DID NOT start this war, the more you will be at peace. And the sooner you accept the fact that this war will never end until our Lord comes back the better. It is all Bible prophecy. It was meant to be. We have gone too long doing as we please, offending God in every aspect of our daily lives and God has finally said "ENOUGH." God bless.

Just to be clear the Federal Governments entitlement of an Entitlement Program seems to be at odds with some of your correspondents definition. . A Federal Entitlement is an obligation of the government which is mandatory and legally obligated. It includes, but is not limited to, military pensions, federal employees pensions and ABSOLUTELY INCLUDES MEDICARE and SOCIAL SECURITY (which is self-funding). It should never be confused with or discussed as if it was some money you might receive from your aunt on a birthday..
