WASHINGTON, DC (Catholic Online) - Eric Holder, 63, will be announcing his resignation as attorney general after more than five years in that position. His career has been marred by controversy, especially over the Fast and Furious case. The resignation, it is rumored, is the result of frustration and a desire to leave the post after being subjected to intense partisan attacks.

If Holder feels attacked, it's with good reason. When Congress ordered Holder to turn over documents related to the Fast and Furious investigation, the House was compelled to hold him in contempt because those documents were never delivered. The Fast and Furious investigation has sought to uncover the truth of who knew what and who was responsible for providing Mexican drug gangs with weapons in exchange for information. The weapons were used in the killing of an American law enforcement officer and dozens of Mexican citizens.

Fight corruption with the Word of God. Give a Bible today.

Holder has also been criticized for other decisions during his career with the Department of Justice, including his refusal to defend federal law protecting marriage, reducing prison sentences for criminals, and attempting to send terrorist combatants to civilian courts for prosecution instead of military tribunals.

Holder has also done nothing to prosecute IRS officials such as Lois Learner who allegedly behaved illegally in the performance of her duty, possibly with the full knowledge of the Obama administration.

According to sources, Holder chose to resign of his own accord and has not been pressured by the Obama administration, which surprisingly does not view him as a liability. In fact, Holder is one of the longest serving attorney generals in U.S. history. Sources said that Holder would have been welcome to finish out his time with the Obama administration.

Holder is not expected to announce where he is going following his departure.
