VATICAN CITY (Catholic Online) - "The Church is tempted by the Devil who tries to divide it. she has been marred by serious and painful divisions," Pope Francis told tens of thousands of worshipers who had gathered for his general audience.

Pope Francis' message was about healing the divisions which divide Christians. He told the crowd that they should not concern themselves so much with fine points of theology, asking the people to leave that to the "good theologians." Instead, people are encouraged to come together in a spirit of ecumenism.

In other words, we should find common binds between us, such as our love of Christ, and unite under that instead of dividing ourselves on points of argument better left to trained theologians.

Pope Francis explained that in the past these divisions have even led to wars.  He also explained that these divisions diminish credibility of the Christian faith around the world.

"Behind all these divisions there is always pride and selfishness," he admonished.

Pope Francis invited all Christians to start "Walking the path of life together in our Faith. Let us go forward towards full unity! History has separated us, but we are on our way to reconciliation and communion. And this is true! And this we must defend. We are all on a journey towards communion."
